The Acolyte Ministry
is one of the oldest in the Church. It is open to young people age 10
and older. An acolyte performs a variety of assignments, including
lighting candles, leading processions by carrying a cross or torch, and
assisting at the altar during the Eucharist. Training is conducted yearly,
but can be scheduled at any time by contacting the Cathedral. The Altar Guild is a ministry which prepares the worship space for liturgy. Its primary duty is to set out vessels and linens for the Eucharist on Sundays and at other services, and to clean and store them after the service. There are also occasional maintenance projects, as well as the opportunity to get involved in preparations for different liturgical seasons. If you would like to be involved with the altar guild, contact Tom Thill at 647-3418 or thillt49@yahoo.com. Archives
Committee
Volunteers are always needed to help in
the variety of tasks required in taking care of the Cathedral Gardens:
watering, weeding, planting, and mulching. On the second Friday of the month, film aficionados meet at 7:00 p.m. at a movie theatre or at Christ Church Cathedral to view one or more films together. Afterwards, the group adjourns to a nearby restaurant to eat, have a glass of wine, and discuss the films. Cornerstone The School of Theology of the University of the South offers EFM to participants who commit one year at a time toward completion of a four-year program. The study of the Bible, church history, and twentieth century theology are combined with theological reflection to develop confidence in and knowledge of Christ’s call to ministry. EFM meets Monday nights from mid-September to early June, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Facilities
Committee The Facilities Committee exercises responsibility for the stewardship of the Cathedral’s historic structures by monitoring building conditions to identify needed repairs or rehabilitation; making budget recommendations to the Chapter; seeking grants for specific projects; and through long-range master planning. Finance Committee
The beauty of God’s creation is a wonder
to behold, and the beauty of flowers reflects the glory of God. The
Flower Guild offers a way to express that beauty each Sunday with
memorials and thanksgivings. Training is provided to anyone who is
interested. There is always something to do at all levels of creativity.
Friends of Music at Christ Church Cathedral is an organization that plans to expand the music program at the Cathedral. The group hopes to offer a boys and girls choir composed of youth diocese-wide, and conduct music programs that include choirs from all over the diocese. To learn more about this opportunity, please contact Garden Committee The Gay Men’s Supper Club is a social supper club open all gay men in the Diocese. The group meets once a month for dinner at someone’s home or at a local restaurant. Gospel Call
Gospel Call is an extension of our Covenant relationship with the
Cathedral of the Assumption. The two cathedral congregations work with
Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church to do joint liturgy [Blessing of
the Animals, an Epiphany celebration, a pulpit exchange] and to join
forces for an outreach project. Operated by a
non-Cathedral volunteer Board of Directors and located in the Lower Level
of the Diocesan House, this ministry provides Community Services to
individuals who live within the 40202 & 40203 zip code areas. Open from
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Monday - Friday, assistance is provided in the
areas of rent and utility assistance, TARC tickets, obtainment of
identification cards, and Rx assistance. Through a one-on-one counseling
process, volunteer counselors provide counseling and assistance as
available to help the individual through the particular crisis they are
having at the moment. With administrative offices on the
third floor of the Diocesan House, this organization speaks to the various
peace and justice in the community and the world. Speakers, walks, vigils,
etc., are all used to educate individuals and raise awareness of such
issues as peace, the death penalty, religious interfaith dialogue, etc. As part of the pastoral care ministry team, Lay Eucharistic Ministers receive special training to take communion from the Sunday Eucharist to parish members who are homebound, hospitalized, or in nursing homes. It is a truly rewarding ministry to share the congregation's prayers and concern. Lay Liturgical
Ministry Lectors, intercessors, chalice bearers, and ushers help the priest present God’s love to the people through the Word and the Sacrament. During the liturgy, lectors read the Scriptures in a manner that allows the congregation to hear God speaking; intercessors lead the people in petitions for others; and the chalice bearers present the “cup of salvation.” Ushers help the congregants prepare to worship, and they facilitate the presenting of our monetary offerings. Men’s Lunch Group The Men's Lunch Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at various restaurants (mostly downtown) at 1:00 PM. There is no fixed agenda--just good fellowship. All men are invited to join the group and meet fellow parishioners. Music Ministry There are many opportunities for anyone interested in the Music Ministry. The Cathedral Choir is a mixed choir of adults and youth who sing at the 10:00 AM Sunday Eucharist and special seasonal services. The Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:15 - 8:45 PM, and on Sundays at 9:15 AM. Hand bells are used in various Sunday services throughout the year. The Cathedral Ringers currently meet on an as-needed basis before or after the Sunday liturgy. Assistance is needed in organizing and maintaining the music library on a seasonal and on-going basis. If you enjoy organizing and have an hour or two on an occasional basis to assist, this is the job for you.
Another meaningful and
unique way to participate in the Music Ministry is to purchase an anthem
in honor or memory of someone. To do so, please speak to the Director of
Music to assist in the choosing of such an anthem. The name of the person
honored or memorialized can be printed on the anthem and will be noted in
the bulletin, should the donor request. The Christ Church Cathedral nursery is operated by a gifted child care giver who engages the children in many ways, including creative art and activities. Volunteers from Christ Church complete the nursery staffing each Sunday morning. Volunteers are always needed. There is no ministry in Christ Church more important than this. Young families and children are the future of CCC. Outreach
Pastoral Care The goal of the Planned Giving Committee is to encourage Cathedral friends and members to make future provisions for the Cathedral in addition to regular pledge contributions, whether by will or some other vehicle. There are plans to build the endowment fund in order to provide Christ Church Cathedral with the financial strength to support both present and future ministries of the Cathedral. New committee members and fresh ideas are always welcome. Seamen's Church
Institute Tennis Group A Tennis Group has been formed and currently meets every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Louisville Tennis Center. If you are an intermediate or above player and would like to join, contact Bill Stodghill at 451-9645. If a change in time would entice you to join, please be sure to let Bill know. Welcome
Ministry Members of the Welcome Ministry Team are in the Narthex before and after each service to greet people as they arrive for worship. This group is committed to helping visitors who come to worship at CCC to feel welcome and comfortable. |
